Job vacancy - Sustainable design specialist
Pollard Thomas Edwards is looking to recruit a sustainable design specialist with experience in Passivhaus and environmental design.
The role involves advising on industry-leading Passivhaus standards across a range of projects, including large-scale housing schemes, schools, mixed-use developments, and residential retrofit projects.
You will be part of a team responsible for environmental design on a variety of projects at all RIBA stages, including research into embodied carbon, climate resilience, sustainability reporting and environmental modelling.
You will have experience of Passivhaus, retrofit assessments, embodied carbon assessments, and the ability to produce clear reports and presentations.
You will be an ambassador for PTE, advocating and applying our sustainable quality standards required to meet the challenges of the climate crisis.

Key duties include:
- Passivhaus design, energy modelling with PHPP (Passivhaus Planning Package)
- Domestic Retrofit assessments (PAS 2035, SAP 10.2)
- Embodied carbon and WLCA assessments
- Producing sustainability and energy assessments reports for planning
- Advising project teams and clients on good sustainable design practice and providing design solutions that meet the relevant targets.
Skill requirements:
- A degree in Architecture, Engineering, Architectural Technology
- Experience of sustainable design in a UK based architectural or engineering practice
- Certified Passivhaus designer is advantageous
- Retrofit Assessor (PAS 2035: 2022) is advantageous
- Experience of UK planning and construction
- Preparing sustainability reports for residential projects in UK
- A good knowledge of UK regulations and standards for energy, embodied carbon
- Good organisational, report writing and administrative skills.
Salary dependent on experience.
